Shiatsu

What is Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a body technique in which the pressure of the fingers and palms stimulate the self-healing mechanism of a person with the aim of preventing disease, but also healing action. Stimulation of the body with pressure and various other techniques returns the psycho-body system to balance.

Shiatsu is based on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), working on the meridians, life energy (Ki-chi or Chi-yu) flowing through them, and acupressure. Along with TCM, Western medicine also had an impact on shiatsu, so shiatsu takes a form in which, in addition to meridians, it also includes work on the structure (musculoskeletal system) and fascia (meninges or membranes), and takes into account the client’s psychological state.

Meridians are energy flows associated with every organ in the body. There are also acupressure points on them that can also be treated separately but are usually done on the entire meridian.

Shiatsu helps to restore the free flow of energy in the body and thus stimulates the self-healing mechanism. Pain or illness can be acute or chronic, and depending on the client’s condition, one or more treatments are needed to return the body to balance. What shiatsu is best at is prevention. For severe physical conditions, mechanical injuries, etc., shiatsu can not completely help, but it is always good as a support to the body in the fight against disease.

How is Shiatsu performed?

Shiatsu treatment is done on a mat on the floor and the client is dressed in comfortable clothes. The treatment is as pleasant as a massage, and the pressure and stretching are always adjusted to bring client into a completely relaxed state. The treatment includes about 10 minutes of introductory interview and final consultation.
